Our Church

This church is part of the Southend and Leigh Circuit in the London North-East District of the Methodist Church in Great Britain. As such, we are in connexion with every other Methodist Church here and worldwide. Throughout the world, there are some 35 million Methodist people, whose church branched from the Church of England in the 18^th century under the leadership of Revd. JohnWesley.

We are one of the mainstream churches in the country, a free church, which was originally set up to spread scriptural holiness throughout the world.

Everyone is welcome to worship God with us and to partake of the Lord’s Supper (Holy Communion) if they love our Lord Jesus Christ.

We seek to follow Christ and to serve people in this neighbourhood.

A brief history of the Church

The site and original wooden chapel, complete with a wheezy organ, were purchased for £90 in 1883 and thus became the property of the Wesleyan Church.

The chapel however eventually was demolished as the foundations were found to be in a poor state and a new Church was built on the site in gothic style and opened in 1906.

It was reported in 1977 that the hall at the rear of the church, built in 1972, had been wrongly designed,
the roof being too heavy for the walls. It was not until 1998 however that the hall had to be demolished
and rebuilt for use by the middle of 1999.

With a floor size of over 14 metres by 8 metres plus a good stage area, the new hall is ideal for the uniformed groups and letting.

The Annexe

Do you remember seeing that old unused Annexe that was standing in the middle of our car park? It has served us well in the past as a meeting room for various groups. However in recent years the annexe's use has declined and it had unfortunately become too expensive to maintain the building. Following a vote by
the Church Council it was decided to demolish the building and use the space to make a larger car park. The work has now been completed and the church has a much larger and improved car park. Click on
